HAPPY PSYCHIATRY BILLS?

Jennifer was two or three days away from her eighteenth birthday and we were shopping at Cost Plus World Imports.  We were on the novelty and party favor aisle and each absorbed in the dazzling array of toys and tinsel.  I had noted a large, ugly spider, and knowing how much Jennifer hates arachnids, had pointed it out, remarking, “isn’t that cruel?”  She was trying not to notice, but secretly planning revenge.  On her hand she wore a puppet, and with it tapped me on the shoulder.  I looked straight into the face of a striking serpent, no more than four inches away from my nose.  I hate snakes more than she hates spiders, of that I am certain!  I screamed out loud (very undignified) and was so upset I blurted out that I didn’t care about her birthday (in the most uncomplimentary terms I could think of).  I turned around and walked away from her and the snake puppet, still angry.  She followed me and told me she was sorry she had scared me.  I told her I was sorry I had said something ungodly and had asked God to forgive me and asked if she would forgive me as well.  She did forgive me, but couldn’t resist the urge to give me a bad time about the whole affair as she remarked that thirty years from now, she would be in a psychiatrist’s office receiving treatment because I had traumatized her on her eighteenth birthday.  Dramatically she announced, “I’ll be undergoing therapy, paying exuberant fees, and it will be all your fault!”
